September 2016
In addition to future plans shown in previous months ( below ) there are a number of new ideas being booked by members:-
Sept 24th   Budapest Cafe Orchestra at St Endellion Church
Oct    8th   Salt Road (Carn2Cove production of sea songs and stories )
Nov  19th  Jazz Cafe in the Church Rooms  ( buy own tickets )
Dec  15th  Pinter's No Mans Land, live streaming,  Wadebridge with pre-performance meal.
We have plans for next year too!   Omid Djalilli in March and Sister Act in July
Already there is a waiting list again.
Please note - October's meeting date is 27th and will be in the Royal Oak


August
We had a short meeting in the mini-bus on the cliff top at the Minack to make arrangements for forthcoming events and welcome three new members, thus absorbing our waiting list.

July meeting

Another new venue  -  this month we were welcomed by The Royal Oak.
We've now enjoyed most outings shown from previous meetings and so far blessed with dry weather for the outdoor venues.

Sept  brings live streaming of Deep Blue Sea, Threepenny Opera at Wadebridge cinema.
Proms at Mt Edgecumbe by Plymouth Symphony Orchestra plus firework display.
October we are off to see The Entertainer (filmed live) at St Austell.
November we've added Pride and Prejudice at HFC to Sarah McQuaid jazz and Red Shoes ballet already on the menu
An original venue for our August meeting  -  on the cliff at Porthcurno!.


June meeting

Held in the Scout Hut
Four new trips chosen this month:-
19th Aug  Miracles 'The Magnificent Three' at Restormel Castle
15th Sept  'Turandot' filmed live
17th Oct  'Cosi Fan Tutte' filmed live
3rd Nov  singer 'Sarah McQuaid' at Charlestown
Two visits to Kneehigh's Asylum - 'Flying Lovers of Vitebsk' and 'Two Gentlemen of Verona', also 'Sue Perkins' are booked.
Next meeting 21st July venue as yet unknown but will be notified when confirmation received.


MAY 19TH
Members have enjoyed theatre and music in many different venues in recent weeks and more ideas flowed at our meeting. Helen has  used our group privilege to reserve seats for SISTER ACT at Theatre Royal July 2017, email her to register your interest, no payment needed yet, hl.mills@outlook(dot)com also Red Shoes (see below).
Jenny is booking 'Kindly Leave the Stage' June 3rd at Sterts, 'Trevithick' June 21st at St Austell, 'Zig Zag' June 11th at Grampound and 'Lady Windermere's Fan'  July 30th at Sterts.
Annie, annie(dot)singer@talk21(dot)com , for 'Cornish American Song' at St Endellion Church June 24th and possibly 'K'antu' same venue, June 3rd.
Judy is arranging Miracle's 'Life's a Dream' at Heligan June 18th, pjadixon@tiscali(dot)co(dot)uk
She is also looking at live streaming of Turandot, Cosi Fan Tutte, The Entertainer and Nutcracker all at St Austell Cinema.

APRIL   MEETING

We now have 34 members and 23 of them attended our last meeting  -  how lovely to know how popular performance arts are, and how rich a diversity we have in Cornwall  (well, and Plymouth!).  Though we've been reluctant to leave any u3a member out, maybe it's time to start a waiting list.......?

'Henning Wehn' and   'Mitch Benn'  have been booked - both venues now full.  Also 'Ronnie Scott Story' at HFC, and  'The James Plays'  at TRP are unlikely to have more seats.
Helen has reserved 15 seats for Matthew Bourne's première of  'RED SHOES'  at TRP for the matinee 26th November, contact her at hl.mills@outlook.com if this appeals, (there's a lot of interest ).   Note that immediate payment is not required for this one.
Jenny has booked  'The Shell Seekers'  - St Austell Players - at the Arts Centre on May 10th, enquire at CRBO for seats.
Ann has  booked Spy Monkeys  'Shakespeare's Deaths'  matinee 1st June, contact  HFC.
Judy has booked N T's filmed production of  'Romeo and Juliet'  7th July, book at St Austell cinema if you would like to join us.
Meetings now back to '3rd Thursdays' so see you 10.30  in Saffron Cafe  on 19th MAY  complete with your refreshments and cheque books!!!
Please remember if using cash this needs to be in an envelope with yours and the productions name.
 

March update
2016  MINACK  trip is to The Clockmaker's Daughter  2pm Aug 18th. 
Travel for people booking from now will be car sharing as the mini-bus already has a waiting list
.
 Please contact Jenny (jenny11.4@live.co.uk ) if you would like to be part of the group booking and are not yet on the list.  We shall go down in the morning and take a picnic lunch.   Tickets approx £11.50  Transport costs on the day.

 
February Meeting

We were very pleased to see four new members at  the Community Centre - welcome to you all!

Annie offered to book a Choral Concert at St Endellion Church on 30th April ( annie.singer@talk21.com ) beautiful church, great acoustics.

Carn to Cove's belated Spring leaflet was searched for local treats.
 Annie is also arranging  'Cousin Jones'  just down the road at Whitecross, a violin and guitar duo with vocals playing gypsy jazz and swing.   18th March 7pm.
Further afield ( Grampound ) Ann (annh@mail.com ) is booking  'Albert Einstein:Relatively Speaking',  Tangram Theatre's musical comedy lecture containing 'the wurst sausage joke ever'!   This on 24th April at 7.30pm.

We now wait impatiently for Miracle Theatre's venue list as   'Life's a Dream'  promises to delight us all.
Helen will welcome you at the next meeting on 17th March, when you can bring your inspired ideas and settle any unpaid dues!


January 2016 Meeting

Ten members enjoyed refreshments as they collected tickets, reviewed recent visits and planned future trips - their enthusiasm never fails!
We are going to see Head South, a Latin/Cuban Jazz quintet on 25th Feb evening, tickets £11

Also Car Man, Matthew Bourne's ballet, a modern take on Bizet's opera Carmen, no cigarette factory, it is set in a garage!This is a live recording at St Austell Cinema, 1st March 8pm.  £8 or £10. (See White River Cinema website)

When someone offers a car lift to venues we decided giving £2 towards petrol would be  a good idea, and in line with other groups - if we go to Minnack, or Shaftesbury Ave we'll think again at the time!

November 19th Meeting

From a lively, well attended meeting sprang the following plans:-

'Complete Works of Shakespeare' at TRP   18th Jan 2016, eve  -  Annie arranging  -  contacts (well) below. This was cancelled by the company, if they do the show locally in the future we will try again!
'An Inspector Calls' at HFC    2nd March 2016, 2.30pm matinee  -  also Annie
'The Father' at HFC    7th April 2016, 2.30pm matinee   -   Carol arranging  -  carol@kingsst.f2s.com
'Chicago' at HFC    6th May 2016, 5pm matinee  -  Rosemary arranging - rosemary.phillips459@btinternet.com

Our thanks to those organising these trips.  Please help them by settling up promptly as we chose to skip a December meeting.

We are a very lively, active and friendly Group meeting every 3rd Thursday of the month in the Community Centre at 
10.30 a.m. - Coffee and excellent cakes available in the Centre.

Don Pasquuale 26th November  - already booked

5th December   - Lerryn Memorial Hall - Victorian Music Hall - tickets will be available at next Group meeting.

At this meeting two further Theatre Trips were chosen.
12th December at 2.30 p.m. - Theatre Royal - King Charles 3rd.
Annie Singer (one of our four new members) is arranging this and bookings are open until our next meeting, when payment will be due.

September 2nd 2015 -  Update from Jenny MacDonald


''We have had an active summer with two visits to Sterts theatre, Mousetrap at Hall for Cornwall, Magnificent 3 at Tregrehan and 946 at Heligan, sometimes socialising over a nice meal beforehand.

Our next meeting to plan future events is, as usual, the third Thursday of the month.  17th September 2015 at Lostwithiel Community Centre in the cafe at 10.30am.
We hope for a good attendance and lots of ideas.  New members very welcome, please be aware that sometimes we need more space there, just say when getting your refreshments, you'll be redirected.''

Information concerning Theatre productions are usually available in the centre, but all new ideas of any visits to local theatres always welcome by the Group.
