Diary Dates for June-October 2018

Friday June 29th
Falmouth area schools GCSE show is on Penryn campus in the design centre. The trip will be made by car so drivers and seat bookings are needed. Contact Jenny 01208 873933 or jenny11.4@live.co.uk. leaving the car park at 10am.

Friday 6th July
Dartmouth Academy are showing their students work at The Flavel, Flavel Place, Dartmouth. This lovely town also has some first class galleries to enjoy. We will need to travel by car so drivers and seat bookings are needed. We will leave the car park at 9.30am and use the park and ride which costs £5 each. Contact Sandra 

Monday 9th July
St. Ives to visit the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden, The Tate or any other galleries that appeal or just to potter and enjoy this lovely seaside town. (if you don't have your local pass for the Tate see their website) We will travel by train so meet on the platform for the 10.07 am service.

Thursday 26th July
Cowslip craft centre near Launceston to view an exhibition of quilts. 'it started with Baltimore, album quilts remembered and their development' The centre also has a cafe. We also plan to visit Terre Vert gallery if time allows. This trip will be by car so drivers and seat booking are needed. we will leave the car park at 10am. Contact Sandra

Sunday 5th August
Tavistock hosts an exhibition in the town hall by the Drawn to The Valley group of artists. There are also other galleries and craft stalls etc. We will need to travel by car so drivers and seat bookings are needed, we will leave the car park at 9.30am. contact Sandra

Monday 13th August
Bovey Tracey Craft Centre at at The Mill and Dartington Craft Centre. We will need to travel by car so drivers and seat bookings are needed, we will leave the car park at 9.30am. contact Sandra.

Wednesday 5th September
Penlee House Gallery in Penzance to see the work of the famous S J Lamorna Birch, who was one of the Lamorna group of painters. Penzance also offers several other galleries to enjoy. we can travel by train so meet on the platform for the 10.04am service.

Sunday 16th September
The Breeze art and Makers Fair at Trerife House near Penzance where workshops, talks and demonstrations are available. a one day ticket costs £10. We will need to travel by car so drivers and seat bookings are needed, we will leave the car park at 9.30am. contact Sandra

Thursday 4th October
To visit galleries in Portscatho and Tregony as time permits. we will need to travel by car so drivers and seat bookings needed, we will leave the car park at 9.30am. contact sandra.

Monday 12th February
The Kurt Jackson Foundation Gallery at St Just to see his latest exhibition of work inspired by the cot valley. travel by car so pre-booking and drivers are needed. meet in the car park at 9.30am.

Thursday 22nd March
The Tate, St Ives to see an exhibition of 70 artists work that has been inspired by Virginia Woolf so has a feminist theme. Meet at the station for the 9am train.

Also the Tate is offering local passes at £5 for 12 months which we can take advantage of.

Wednesday 11th April
Totnes by train for lunch, the costume museum etc. meet at the station for the 10.45am train, return 16.53pm.

Tuesday 24th April-Thursday 26th April
London Galleries including Tate Britain for 'impressionists in London' and Bacon, Freud etc  'Painting Life'. Tate Modern for Picasso and others yet to be agreed.
those interested will meet at Barbara's after the open meeting, 3.30pm on 15th January to make bookings.

Friday 4th May
Delamore House in Devon for their annual exhibition of sculpture and artworks together with an exhibition by the southwest academy. travel by car so pre-booking and drivers will be needed.

Wednesday 23rd May
Cornwall Open studios. we will await their brochure for final arrangements but suggestions so far are the north coast (Rock-Bude) by car, or a return visit to Krowji by train

Diary from October 2017 until January 2018

Saturday 21st October

Penlee House in Penzance for an exhibition by John Armstrong entitled Dream and Reality. an interesting artist 'influenced by surrealism but not a surrealist' he was also a set and costume designer. With the usual coffee, lunch and browsing other galleries on the walk.
Meet on the platform for the 9.04 train, return trains 15.52 or 16.41pm.

Friday 3rd November 

Falmouth Gallery for two exhibitions 'outspoken' and 'alternative visions' showing a variety of artists from banksy to emin to new artists with disabilities. And of course coffee, lunch and browsing along the way.
meet on the platform for the 10.07 train return trains are 14.50, 15.50 and 16.50pm

Wednesday 15th November

To Exeter for an open exhibition staged by the southwest art academy at the castle. Also two other galleries in the city.
meet on the platform for the 8am train, return trains are 14.44 and 16.20pm from exeter st davids.

Thursday 14th December

to the kurt Jackson Foundation Gallery in St Just for his latest exhibition inspired by the cott valley. Drivers and prior booking will be needed for this one. meet in the car park at 10am.

Tuesday 19th December

penlee House Penzance to see the art of Stuart Richardson, the gibson dynasty (Photographs), and crafts for christmas.
meet on the platform for the 10.07 train. return trains are 14.49, 15.59, 16.44pm.

Please bring your ideas for visits in 2018, we already have suggestions for Port Issac and Trebethrick artists galleries, a sculpture park on the coastal path near coverack and another london trip late march/early may for The RA picasso exhibition etc.etc.


 Diary from May 2017

Wednesday 17th May. Falmouth.

For ‘Artists Afloat’ at Falmouth Art Gallery, the works of Tuke and Hemy painted from the sea. With opportunities for coffee, lunch and browsing on the way. Travel by train so meet at Lostwithiel station for the 10.10am service.

 

Monday 22nd May and Wednesday 24th May.

Delamore House, Devon for their deservedly popular annual exhibition. We have arranged this for two days so that everyone can make the visit. The garden can be soggy underfoot whatever the weather so good walking shoes are recommended. Cars and booking are needed. contact Sarah (07776266783) for Monday or Pat (pat.stearn "AT" mypostoffice.co.uk) for Wednesday.

 

Open Studios Wednesday 31st May.

In the Penzance area, we will visit the studios of various artists, beginning with Trewidden Garden Studios. Cars and booking will be needed, so contact Sandra. meet in the car park at 9.30am.

 

Open Studios Saturday 3rd June.

In the Helston area, primarily to the sculpture Garden created by Peter Boex and to visit other artists in the area depending on time available. Cars will be needed.

Plymouth Friday 16th June.

To the university to see the students exhibition. Meet at the station for the 11.37am train.

 

Penzance Monday July 10th.

To Penlee for the Stanhope Forbes (The Father of the Newlyn School) exhibition. Meet at the station for the 10.10am train.

 

Penzance Wednesday 26th July

To Tremeneer Sculpture gardens and the Strandline Gallery. This garden can be steep in places so mobility issues need to be considered. Cars are needed so contact Sandra to book. Meet in the car park at 9.30am.

 

Falmouth Tuesday 12th September

‘Liberation of Colour’ the Winifred Nicholson exhibition at Falmouth Gallery. Meet on the platform for the 10.10am train.

 

Chagford, Devon Monday 18th September

To the Mythic Sculpture Garden. This is a woodland style garden so walking shoes might be useful. Then into Chagford itself for galleries and refreshments  there. We will also take the route across Dartmoor to enjoy the views. Cars and booking will be needed so contact Sandra to make arrangements, meet in the car park at 9.30am

And lastly and most importantly our next meeting at the Royal Oak on Friday 22nd September at 2.30pm.

Diary from February 2017
 
February 13th. The Kurt Jackson Foundation Gallery.
An exhibition of his work entitled 'Obsession, Following the surfer'. This is in St Just, west of Penzance. The work can be seen on his website and includes paintings, sculpture and ceramics. There are more galleries in St Just but as yet opening times are not known. This will be by car so pre-booking and drivers will be needed. meet in the car park at 10am.
 
February 21st at the conservative club.
A talk by Henrietta Boex about the falmouth art gallery, hosted by the ladies club, entrance £2. Pat Stern is our contact for this.
 
February 24th. The Cube Gallery Plymouth.
An exhibition of students work in Portland Square. travel by train, Jenny will organise timings.
 
March 10th. Plymouth Civic Centre.
An exhibition by Plymouth Society of Arts, including work by Melanie Guy (pewterwork etc.) and her husband (sculptural timberwork). Travel by train, Jenny will organise timings.
 
March 29th St Winnow.
A talk by John Halkes on 'the artists of the newlyn school' time and cost unknown at present, but this is a fundraiser for the bells. Pat Stern is our contact for this.
 
April 10th. Tate St Ives.
An exhibition by Jessica Warboys entitled 'the studio and the sea' to include ceramics and paintings of landscape and the sea. of course St Ives always has much more to offer which we will take advantage of on the day. Travel by train with timings to be arranged later.
 
April 20th. Cothele House.
An exhibition of local crafts entitled 'home from home' details are on their website. Normal admission charges apply. travel by car so pre-booking and drivers are needed. meet at 10am in the car park. Pat Stern is our contact for this.
 
Friday April 28th. Our next planning meeting at 2.30 in the Royal Oak.
 
May 24th Delamore House.Cornwood.
A return trip to this delightful exhibition of local work in the house and gardens . there is plenty of walking here and the garden can be soggy even when the weather is not, so good footwear is recommended. travel by car so pre-booking and drivers are needed. meet in the car park at 10am.
 
May 31st. Cornwall open studios.
This year the plan is to visit the Helston area which boasts a huge variety of artists. The specific route will be decided once their programme is published. travel will be by car so pre-booking and drivers are needed. meet in the car park at 10am.
 
June 16th. Plymouth.
Plymouth Society of Arts exhibition at Artmill Gallery, 83 Hyde Park Road, and plymouth university finals and masters show at the university and Royal William Yard. travel by train, Jenny to finalise timings.
 
June/July London
A 1,2 or 3 day trip by train, details to be finalised but suggestions at the moment are the mall galleries and the galleries of Kew Gardens.
 
Also in July, dates to be finalised,
The Royal William Yard 'Artisan Crafts in the Southwest' and Penzance, Tremenere Sculpture Gardens and the Strandline Gallery.
 
 
 


JANUARY 2017

Planning meeting on Friday 13th January at 2.30pm at the Royal Oak in their lovely quiet little back room.

 Two things for 2017 that you might like to know about-

Tuesday 21st February at the conservative club at 8pm, hosted by the ladies group, a talk by Henrietta Boex from Falmouth Art Gallery.

Friday 3rd March at the red store Lerryn 10.30-4.30. A day school with WEA at £22 about the slade school of art in 1912. to book phone 0845 458 2758 but I image its first come first served as the red store is quite small.
